Washington boat tax appeals
Washington taxes your vessel every year. If the assessed value is too high, we appeal it — $0 upfront, and a fee only if the value drops.
How Washington taxes your boat
Washington charges an annual watercraft excise tax of 0.5% of fair market value on boats 16 feet and over, in lieu of property tax, with value set by a state depreciation schedule.
Who sets the value
Washington Department of Revenue
Who hears the appeal
Washington Board of Tax Appeals
What gets filed
Petition under RCW 82.32.160 / 82.32.170
Deadlines: Tax is due June 30. A vessel owner may petition the Department to dispute the appraised value, then appeal to the Board of Tax Appeals within 30 days under RCW 82.49.060.
