Terms of Service

Last updated September 13, 2026

These terms govern your use of BoatTaxAppeal. The short version: we appeal your vessel's assessed value on your behalf, you pay nothing unless we get it reduced, and we are a tax agent rather than a law firm. The detail follows.

What the service does

You give us your vessel and assessment details. We evaluate whether the assessed value looks high relative to market evidence, and if it does, we prepare and file an assessment appeal with the relevant county and correspond with the assessor on your behalf.

We only file in the counties listed on our coverage page. If you are outside those counties we will tell you so, and we will not charge you anything.

Our fee

  • There is no upfront charge. We place a $0 authorization on your card so a payment method is on file.
  • If, and only if, the appeal produces a verified reduction in assessed value, we bill 25% of the resulting first-year tax savings.
  • Savings are calculated as the reduction in assessed value multiplied by the applicable county tax rate.
  • If there is no reduction, there is no fee. You owe nothing and we do not bill the card on file.
  • We bill only after we hold documentation from the taxing authority confirming the reduced value.

Authorization to act as your agent

Filing an appeal requires you to authorize us in writing to represent you before the county. You provide that authorization by signing the agent authorization form in the intake flow. You confirm that you own the vessel, or are otherwise entitled to appeal its assessment, and that the information you give us is accurate.

You may revoke the authorization at any time by writing to hello@boattaxappeal.com. Revoking it after a reduction has already been secured does not remove the fee owed on that reduction.

What we do not promise

  • We are not a law firm, we do not provide legal advice, and no attorney-client relationship is created by using this service.
  • We are not tax advisors and nothing here is tax advice for your broader situation.
  • We cannot guarantee any particular outcome. Assessment appeals boards can leave a value unchanged, and in some jurisdictions a review can result in an increase.
  • Filing deadlines are set by each county and can change. The dates we display are for reference and convenience. You remain responsible for your own tax obligations and deadlines, and you should confirm them with your assessor.
  • Taxes generally remain due while an appeal is pending. Filing an appeal does not postpone payment.

Your responsibilities

  • Give us accurate vessel, ownership, and assessment information.
  • Forward county correspondence about the assessment to us promptly.
  • Keep a valid payment method on file until the appeal is resolved.
  • Tell us if you sell the vessel or move it to another jurisdiction while an appeal is open.

Cancellation

You can cancel before we file at no cost. Once an appeal has been filed we may continue to conclusion, because withdrawing can forfeit your rights for that tax year. If a reduction is achieved on a filed appeal, the fee is payable.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from the service is limited to the fees you have actually paid us. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including additional tax, interest, or penalties assessed by a taxing authority.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects an appeal already in progress, the version in effect when you authorized that appeal continues to govern it.
